Kobalt Plans Measured Approach To Reopening

After much consideration and consultation with staff and others in the LGBTQ bar community, Kobalt has decided to continue to monitor the situation and has opted for a phased and measured approach to reopening.  At the moment we do not have an opening date for the public but have scheduled a few “reservation only” and private events that allow a for a more controlled and manageable environment for both staff and guests.  During this period we will be adhering to strict protocols that have been recommended by the CDC for establishments with dine in service and allowed by the governor. A limited menu will be made available to guests during this time.  Guests will be made aware of the guidelines we are asking them to adhere to including but not limited to:

    • Staff must wear face coverings at all time

    • If you are sick or not feeling well do not enter premise

    •  Voluntary temperature checks at the door for customers

    • Social distancing of groups and individuals via seating

    • Limited walk up bar service, table seating preferred

    • Credit/debit cards preferred for potential contact tracing if necessary, and to limit                    personal cash transactions

    • Single use and digital menus available

    • Single use plasticware available

    • Routine temperature checks of employees at shift change

    • Recommended mask use by customers

    • Strict routine use of hand sanitizer and hand washing

    • Routine sanitizing of tables after use

    • Reduced occupancy

It has  been almost 3 months since bars were ordered closed by the government and since then, CDC recommended protocols have been put in place to help protect us.

A majority of bars and restaurants in Arizona are currently open. Some are adhering to CDC recommendations and some not.  We have chosen to reopen on a limited basis with certain guidelines in place for the safety of our patrons and staff.   I want the measures we put in place to be one of the  reasons you come back, not the reason why you stay away.  We are not taking this lightly and believe that those patrons who do choose to come back are by now fully aware of the risks.  The reopening of a business does not mean you must return to that business before you are ready.  That is your choice.  If you come back to a bar and there is nothing different about the way they are doing things, then you should reconsider being there.

There will, of course, be some who will say it is too soon, even for the approach we are taking and that we are putting profit before health.  To this I say, "I respect your views and hope we can set an example that you can be proud of while we begin this process".  I have not been living in a vacuum and have seen the botched reopening of some bars including those in Scottsdale and Tempe.  The disregard for any form of social distancing or protection was not unseen by us nor has the recent rise in cases possibly due to this. That is not the opening I want. Our community is better than that.  It will take both the venue and you, the patron to ensure that our attempts at opening using a cautious and measured approach is successful.  With your help we know it can be.
